Download the installation file cartotype_demo.sis by clicking here. It was built on 28th September 2005 using CartoType revision 187. By clicking on this link you accept that Cartography Ltd. is not liable for any damage, direct or consequential, caused by downloading, installing or running the demonstration program, and that the demonstration program is not warranted fit for any particular use and is for demonstration purposes only. You may distribute copies of the installation file freely but you may not post it on the Internet.
Install the demonstration application in the standard way by connecting your P900 to your PC and double-clicking on the file on your PC. You should install it on drive D:. The program can be uninstalled in the usual way using uninstall in the Applications menu that is shown when the list of applications is visible.
Run the demonstration by clicking on CARTOTYPE_DEMO in the list of applications. You should see something similar to the picture below (not quite the same because the screen shots below were taken from the Symbian OS emulator running under Windows). It is a map of Manhattan Island in New York City. You can load other maps, but Manhattan was chosen to be part of the demonstration program because of the relatively small size of the data file.

If you use your pointer to drag out rectangles from top-left to bottom-right you can zoom in right down to street level:

Open... allows you to open a new map file. Free US city maps for CartoType are available here. The dialog box displays files with the extension .ctm1 only. You can load files from any directory.
Close closes the demonstration program. It is also closed automatically by the operating system when it is in the background and another application needs more memory.
Zoom in zooms in by increasing the scale.
Zoom out zooms out by decreasing the scale.
Pan left, Pan right, Pan up and Pan down move the displayed area of the map in the specified directions. You can also click anywhere to re-center the map, unless Click shows names is selected.
Find... allows you to find a map object - a street, for example. At present - until this demonstration application is improved - you have to type the exact name of the street as shown on the map (but you don't have to use the same case - lower-case, upper-case or a mixture is fine).
Find next displays the next object matching the last search.
Click shows names changes the meaning of a single pointer click. If it is checked, clicking on the map displays the name of the object touched, which is useful if a street is too small for its name to be displayed. If it is not checked, a click re-centers the map.
Show names on map allows you to turn the display of names on and off. On slow devices panning is faster when names are not shown. This makes little difference on the Sony Ericsson P900.
