CartoType demonstration program for Windows Mobile 2005
with full UK map using OpenStreetMap data

Here (18MB download) is the Windows Mobile 2005 CartoType Demo, as tested on my O2-branded XDA Orbit mobile phone, made by HTC. By clicking on this link you accept that neither Cartography Ltd. nor any owners, shareholders or officers of Cartography Ltd. are liable for any damage, direct or consequential, caused by downloading, installing or running the demonstration program, and that the demonstration program is not warranted fit for any particular use and is for demonstration purposes only. You may distribute copies of the zip file and the files it contains freely.

The demonstration program is not full-featured and needs a lot of improvement but it shows that CartoType can work reasonably well with a large data file. It doesn't yet support a drag-to-slide interface. Click anywhere on the map to re-centre it.

The GPS menu item turns on GPS tracking. It displays a red circle at your current position and a red line giving your track.

The Calculate route menu item calculates and displays a route between the last two points clicked. Warning: it is slow, experimental and may cause the program to run out of memory.

To install and run the program:

1. Unzip the files to your PC.
2. Create a new folder called CartoTypeDemo in "My Device\Program Files" on the Pocket PC device and copy CartoTypeDemo.exe into it.
3. Create a new folder called font in CartoTypeDemo and copy all the files ending .pfb into it.
4. Create a new folder called style_sheet in CartoTypeDemo and copy all the files ending .xml into it.
5. Create a new folder called My Maps in "My Device\My Documents" and copy the map file, england.ctm1, into it.
6. Run the program CartoTypeDemo.exe on the device.
7. Open the file england.ctm1, which is in the same folder.

Apart from the commands on the menu, you can zoom in by pressing the joystick button, and pan up, down, left and right by using the roller ball or joystick if your device has one.
